About the Author

Judith Dancoff is the author of the award-winning collection The Calamity of Desire and Other Stories (Finishing Line Press 2024) and director/producer of the documentary "Judy Chicago & the California Girls" which has screened at and is owned by universities and museums around the world, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Metropolitan Museum in New York, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

Judith's short stories and essays have appeared in numerous publications including The Georgia Review, Alaska Quarterly Review, Southern Humanities Review, The Shanghai Literary Review and elsewhere. Her collection The Calamity of Desire and Other Stories was recently named the 2025 winner for Best Short Story Collection from the Next Generation Indie Book Awards and received Honorable Mentions at the Los Angeles and Paris Book Festivals.

Judith has been a member of the Southern California Alumnae Council for Hedgebrook, the foremost retreat for women writers in the country, and has received fellowships from Hedgebrook, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts and the Djerassi Resident Artists Program where she was the McElwee Family Fellow. She holds an MFA in writing from Warren Wilson College, an MA in education from Columbia University, and an MFA in filmmaking from UCLA.

In addition to teaching private writing workshops, Judith teaches English and literature at Los Angeles City College.
